WHAT IS THIS THING CALLED A BLOWER DOOR TEST?
To start with let’s get some background info. A home should operate in a slightly postive pressure, meaning the home’s duct system is working properly and minimal leaks are present. A tight home with minimal leaks will lose very little conditioned air. However, if a home is very leaky, the home will operate on a negative pressure, meaning it must make up the air from somewhere, so (pardon the expression) it sucks! THIS IS VERY BAD! Envelope tightness test/home infiltration test/blower door test. These 3 terms are the different names for the same test. Simply put, this test measures the tightness or leakiness of a home.
